Colony DAO

The House that Jack Built

Colony is the blockchain software that operates our DAO.

We looked at all the various ways to create a DAO, and initially overlooked Colony based on an old version of it from a few years back.

But then like magic one night it fell into our lap from the heavens, divine intervention at work! We randomly followed a link to a post that Jack (the creator of Colony) had just made 2 days prior, introducing their new version through a demo video. It looked amazing. Like leagues beyond anything else that's available.

It wasn't fully complete, and it wasn't open to anyone to use, but it was more than obvious that this was the right solution for us. We got in touch with the Colony team and they let us join their beta program!! We are one of the very first groups allowed in and the timing is perfect.

While Colony is indeed brand new and bleeding edge, it's been in development for a number of years now, and has a very dedicated team of about a dozen people working on the project. New features will be added rapidly over the coming weeks and months, and we'll be able to help them grow through providing constructive feedback.

The Colony software is so new in fact that that the main feature of a DAO - voting - isn't even available yet! It's of course being worked on and will be available soon, but as such all colonies are fully authoritarian until voting becomes available shortly. Most DAOs start out centralized anyway to make sure security is good before giving up control forever, as it can only be done once.

In the meantime we can setup proposals on the WIN forums, vote and/or get consensus there and enter the proposals manually. Shouldn't affect us too much in the short term, and will give everyone time to figure out the crypto stuff in advance of being able to vote.

Once voting becomes available then the project becomes completely decentralized and out of anyone's control. It will run by itself, and answer to nothing but the will of the voters.
